Charity Spotlight: Fugees Family

This month we’re featuring the Fugees Family! They’re a non-profit which works with child survivors of war, supporting them, and providing structure so they can realize their full potential. The organization was started five years ago by Coach Luma Mufleh to provide refugee boys free access to organized soccer. Beyond the soccer field, the organization also stresses academic discipline and success in the classroom.
Founded in 2004, the Fugees Family has grown to seven teams, a tutoring program, an academy, an academic camp, and more. Young boys from all parts of the world take part, hailing from various countries including Afghanistan, Somalia, Congo, and Bosnia. As the kids all come from war-torn countries and speak different languages, soccer is a means of establishing a connection and common ground among the boys. For Mufleh, Fugees family is her passion and purpose, and serves as both coach and confidant to these boys.
Fugees Family is based in a community just outside Atlanta, Georgia. Their cause has been featured on media outlets such as CNN, Bridging the Divide with Tom Brokaw and ESPN. To learn more about this amazing organization, please visit their site.
