Piryx Powers YCC Ghana!
Another special organization we want to highlight this month is YCC Ghana. We touched base with the Founder John Homadzi Glidden, who was kind enough to share with us his vision behind the organization. Gladden is passionate about YCC, and is working to develop relationships with international organizations, as well as putting together a ten year blue print for the organization. He hopes for the organization to one day act as international agency for deprived young people to develop an active exchange of ideas, and participating in leadership roles in their communities.
Headquartered in Ghana, Gladden partnered with US-based Ben Glover, and started the organization back in 2004. They work with a number of different international organizations and volunteers from such places as Canada, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, and the US. Their main US partner is an organization called Bright Star Vision, located in Hartford, Connecticut. YCC is currently operating in 20 communities in Ghana, West Africa.
Their mission is to inspire today’s youth to create positive change within their communities, and also build a global culture of youth collaboration to eradicate poverty, increase access to education and resources, improve health, and promote peace. Some of their goals include promoting early child development, eradicate child labor and slavery, and provide educational and self-sufficiency opportunities for young community members.
For future projects, Gaddin strives for the organization to develop a rehabilitation and re-integration center for children under slavery and trafficking, a Capacity Building Center, and Learning Center for kids and micro credit projects.
